Understanding Turbocharger vs Supercharger
Turbochargers and superchargers both force more air into your engine for increased power, but they work quite differently.
How a Turbocharger Works
A turbocharger uses exhaust gas energy to spin a turbine, which compresses intake air. Because it's driven by exhaust, there's no direct mechanical load on the engine.

- Turbo lag at low RPM

How a Supercharger Works
A supercharger is mechanically driven by the engine via a belt. It provides instant boost from idle.

- Linear power delivery
- Simpler installation
Cons
- Parasitic loss on the engine
- Less efficient at high RPM
- Typically lower peak power
Which Should You Choose?
For daily drivers, a turbocharger offers better efficiency. For drag racing or applications needing instant response, a supercharger is hard to beat.
Many modern cars now use electric superchargers to eliminate turbo lag while maintaining turbo efficiency.
